Bank of America Website and Mobile App Login Issue 2026 - Forced to Enter Account and SSN #

If you are getting prompted for your card or account number and SSN or tax ID number after trying to log into your Bank of America account through the website or mobile app, this article will explain what's happening and what to do next.

What is Happening?

So when I tried to log into Bank of America through their website, it redirects me to a "Recover your user ID and password" page and forces me to enter a card/account number and social security or ITIN number.

When I tried to log into Bank of America through the mobile app, it redirects me to a "View User ID/Create New Password" page which asks for card/account number and social security or Tax ID number.

Why is This Happening?

I called Bank of America to figure out why I am being forced to enter this information and was told by a Bank of America representative that they are improving their security and forcing users to update their password to maintain a minimum character length with character requirement. They have been slowly rolling out this update and it is now my turn to update my password. After entering the required information, it made me update the password on my account and I was able to log in afterwards.
